Project Description

Westgate CRA is continuing its efforts to improve transportation options, and create a safe, multi-modal network throughout the redevelopment area.  It has multiple streetscape projects that enhance walkability and mobility and improve pedestrian safety within the community which are actively underway.

Seminole Boulevard Complete Streets

Purpose
Seminole Boulevard intersects Westgate Avenue and is an important north-south connector within the CRA district, extending from Okeechobee Boulevard to Troy Boulevard. The project improves pedestrian and bicyclist facilities and safety, and creates a recreation loop

Scope
Pedestrian scale lighting for nighttime safety and 10’-12’ multi-use paths on each side of roadway, with future plans to install landscaping for shade within Seminole Blvd. R-O-W between Okeechobee Blvd. and Oswego Avenue

Construction Cost:

$1.8 million. In FY18/19 the CRA, in partnership with PBC Engineering, was awarded $1 million in FDOT funding from the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency Transportation Alternatives (TAP) grant program to implement the project

Construction Timeline:

  • Construction mobilized on 11/20/2023
  • 180 days to completion

Westgate Avenue Streetscape Improvements

Purpose
Capital Improvements Project + Economic Development Driver. The project was conceived through a 2016 Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO, now Florida Jobs) grant to prepare a Westgate Avenue Streetscape Plan. The Plan, which incorporated feedback from community stakeholders, was used to create a streetscape design to improve functionality, walkability, and multimodal transportation opportunities + beautify and create and environment to attract new investment and expand economic opportunity on the Westgate Avenue corridor

Scope
Reduce lanes from 5 to 3 with center turn lane, pedestrian scale lighting for nighttime safety, widened 6’ sidewalks, flex on-street parking/street trees and landscaping for shade and aesthetics, and 5’ bike lanes within the Westgate Avenue R-O-W between Congress Avenue to Wabasso Drive

Construction Cost
$11 million. In FY 18/19 the CRA, in partnership with PBC Engineering, was awarded $3.2 million in FDOT funding from the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency Local Initiatives (LI) grant program to implement the project

Construction Timeline:

  • Construction mobilized during first week of January 2024
  • Phased work begins at Congress Avenue
  • 1.5 years to completion

Cherry Road Pedestrian Improvements

Purpose
Cherry Road is the primary access point into the Belvedere Homes/Golfview Heights neighborhood from Military Trail. The Project improves pedestrian and bicyclist facilities, mobility and safety.

Scope
An 8’ multi-use path on the north side of the roadway, 6’ sidewalks to portions on the south side east of Country Club Road, a high visibility crosswalk at Country Club Rd., pedestrian scale lighting for nighttime safety, and street trees where viable within Cherry Rd. R-O-W between Quail Drive and Military Trail

  • Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency
  • FDOT District 4
  • Westgate CRA

Construction Cost:

Estimated approx. $1.4 million. In FY 19/20 the CRA, in partnership with PBC Engineering, was awarded $1 million in FDOT funding from the Palm Beach County Transportation Planning Agency Transportation Alternatives (TAP) grant program to implement the project

Construction Timeline:

  • Project is in the final design phase with programmed construction start in early 2025
